40 Great Nail Art Ideas - Films

Hello and happy Friday! Today's theme is Films, and I was inspired by a polish that I had made for my friend at Christmas. You see, she is a big Disney fan, and a bigger fan of the movie Frozen, and and even bigger fan of a specific character in the movie: Kristoff. Yep, our fun-loving, unassuming hero is her favorite Disney character, and she collects all sorts of Kristoff items. She has loads of figurines and other toys, and I wanted to get her something one of a kind, so I had the lovely Kayla of Creative Cuticles Nail Polish make me a Kristoff nail polish for her.

Look at all the sparkle! Like Kristoff's beloved ice, this shines with it's multitude of tiny silver glitters, and also has glitters inspired by his clothing colors: red shards, teal squares, dark grey hexes, and small white hexes and sqaures. There are also a bunch of holographic hexes that shift from silver to a beautiful iridescent blue. So many glitters! :) This polish turned out so beautiful, and I couldn't be happier. Oh and guess what we named it?! Just Guess!!!

We named it "A Bit Of A Fixer Upper"! Squeeeeeee! Ahhhh so anyway, I decided to show off this lovely polish with my films prompt and do a Kristoff manicure. I drew his face on my middle nail using my new tiny paintbrushes from Winstonia (LOVE!).

Here are the polishes I used for him:
  • Pure Ice Kiss Me Here, Black Rage, & SuperStar!
  • Julep Nellie, Clara, & Alicia
  • China Glaze Kalahari Kiss & Adventure Red-y
  • Essie Where's My Chauffeur?
  • Sinful Colors Nirvana

Thank you so much for stopping by to look at my blog today! Make sure you check out what everyone else did for their "films" manicures!

40 Great Nail Art Ideas - Things That Fly

Good morning! This week's theme for the Nail Tarts' challenge is Things That Fly. I thought for a while on this one, but it didn't take long for me to decide that I needed spaceships!

I used my new Nerd Lacquer, I Think You Call Me...Sexy for my base. It looks like space with stars and has tons of sparkle. I wanted a variety and had several stamping plates featuring spaceships, so I just used them all! I made these decals using mostly images from BM-XL134 and the image on my thumb is from JR-31. I got this Nerd Lacquer and the JR plate (My Online Shop) from my secret agent in a Christmas exchange, and I thought I was going to DIE. I cried opening everything, but there will be a separate post for that!

The decals were done using Mundo de Unas Light Gray and Blue.  I used Sally Hansen Graphite Gravity, a silver OPI that has no name, a silver polish from The New Black that is also nameless, and some of the Mundo de Unas blue to color in the decals.

Here is what Nerd Lacquer I Think You Call Me...Sexy looks like on it's own. It's a fantastic blue jelly packed with holographic shimmer, tiny blue and silver metallic hexes, medium sized blue and silver metallic hexes, and larger pale blue metallic hexes. It's gorgeous. And also, it's a Dr. Who polish, so I love it even more just for that.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today! Make sure you check out what everyone else did for this week's prompt. I know there is at least one other TARDIS out there. ;)

40 Great Nail Art Ideas - New Year

Hello everyone. When I think of a New Year's mani, I pretty much think of anything with glitter haha. So, I busted out some of my new polishes (yay for Christmas!), and played around until I got this.

To be honest, I just had the idea in my head and went for it, so it didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. BUT, there is glitter (lots) and holo, so I am happy. :) I used Bear Pawlish Curiosity for my base. Oh my goodness I am so in love with this polish. It has everything I love - purple, glitter, holo...um well that's it really. :P And that is all it needs! It has so much more depth in person, but my camera just couldn't handle it. It always struggles with purples. The striping is done using Julep Harley mixed with Bear Pawlish The Gift 2015. I wanted my silver to be holo, but don't actually own a silver holo. You can bet that went on my wishlist!!! The circular glitter "balls" are OPI's I Snow You Love Me. This is such a weird polish to me...but it has it's uses. ;)

Here is what Curiosity looks like on it's own. I feel like my photograph doesn't do it justice. It looks more blue in some lights and almost red in other lights because of the shifty glitters packed inside. My camera went with more blue haha. It's a purple jelly jam-packed with so many purple, fuchsia, and holo glitters. It is crazy sparkly - perfect for New Year's Eve!

40 Great Nail Art Ideas - Winter

I decided to focus on wintry colors for this mani instead of snowflakes since I just did a snowflake manicure last week. So, I made some decals using CICI&SISI plate 23, and I really love the way they came out.

I started off with Butter London Scouse for my base. It is a lovely blue shimmer that shifts purple. My camera didn't capture the purple, but I promise you, it is there. :) I made my decals using Mundo de Unas Holland Blue, and filled in the little flower/star in the center using Julep Kris. I added Pretty & Polished The Sky Is Falling to the diamond around the center.

Here is what Scouse looks like on its own. It is quite thin, so this is about 3-4 thin coats with 1 coat of Out The Door topcoat.

Make sure you check out every one's winter manicures!

November 2015 Julep It Girl Box

Hello! So, I took forever to get these swatches up, but I have the November 2015 It Girl box up on my blog finally. I really have not been in the blogging mood lately. I paint my nails, and even take the pics, but then they just sit on my camera for weeks. Whoopsie. Anyway, I have 4 swatches for you from this box.

I did not swatch the shimmer topcoat because I didn't have a chance to wear it on it's own, AND I had a really bad break with a sloppy patch, so sheer polish is NOT happening right now. :)

First up, we have Sonia. This is a metallic blue that dries to a matte finish. It is super opaque, and went on in just one coat. This is without topcoat.

Next, we have Rashida. This one is the same formula as Sonia, but is a soft bronze color. It went on in one smooth coat, and this swatch is with no topcoat.

Next, is Kris. This is a gorgeous shimmery silver. It looks almost flaky, and I struggle to describe it. It has tiny holographic shimmers in it that were really hard to capture. Basically, it's sparkle-central. I did two coats here.

Last, we have Melody. Melody is a glitter topcoat. You have to shake it to get the glitters to even out in the base. This was apparently done on purpose, but it really wasn't anything special to me. It contains tiny holographic glitters, silver shimmer, and multi-colored iridescent glitter. I painted it over white, to show the color variations.

That is all I have today. I will be back Saturday with some wintery nail art for you!

Red Hearts Jelly Pond Manicure

Ok, so I was hoping to get my Rainbow Honey swatches done BEFORE I show off this mani, but I am terrible at deadlines. You get to see the color before I officially share the swatch because I gotta get this post in before the end of the week for the stamping plate challenge...and it's Friday! I did this mani using Rainbow Honey Red Jelly Sandals from this month's Mystery Bag.

I did two coats of Red Jelly Sandals, then stamped this heart pattern from CICI&SISI 23 using Julep Harley. I layered one more coat of Red Jelly Sandals, and then stamped the heart pattern again in white using Pure Ice SuperStar!.

It's very Valentine's-y. :P I'll have to remember I have this pretty red jelly at Christmas and again at Valentine's Day! Thank you so much for looking today! I only have a few manis left to do this month using this plate. Wish me luck!

52 Week Pick n Mix - Needle Drag + Burgundy

Hi all! This is the first time I have ever tried the needle drag technique, and let me tell you, it is not all it's cracked up to be! I practiced this on paper first and thought I had this down, but was unable to translate it onto my nails. Ugh! But I do have some pretty sparkles for you, so that will make up for it.

At least my ring and little fingers turned out the way I wanted them to! I used Zoya Blaze as my base - holo burgundy! :) I love this polish so much! I then did vertical stripes of it alternating with China Glaze I'm Not Lion, then quickly used my needle to drag back and forth. The way it turned out on my ring finger is how I intended it to look on every nail...but you can't win 'em all!

Here is the gorgeous Zoya Blaze all by herself. Glittery holographic goodness. This went on it two smooth coats.

Thank you so much for reading today. Please make sure you look at what everyone else did for this week's prompt!

Stamping Over Nail Foils

Hi everyone. I feel like I am going completely crazy with work right now, so I barely have time to even think about my nails, let alone paint them, and post about it! It's only Wednesday and I've already put in 30 hours- yikes! Anyway, I experimented with nail foils on Sunday night, and wanted to share my results.

Nail foils are hard! It probably would have been easier if I used the right glue, but I didn't have any, so I made do with some scrapbooking craft glue that I had. I have seen other people paint their nails with the glue and then use a cuticle pusher to rub the foil on. Mine did not go that way. I tried the pusher, and only got little bits of the foil, so then I just used my fingers to press the foil on. It worked better, but I got little shreds of the foil instead of a nice smooth design. This means I need to buy the darn glue I guess. It had it's own unique look once I was done, so I guess I don't mind.

After I got my foil down, I used Sally Hansen Pure Chrome to stamp a design from MoYou London's Explorer plate 03. It was a very bright and shiny manicure once this was all done. I liked it, but the glue I used started peeling at the edges, so I lost bits of my design after a day or two. I wonder if the proper glue for nail foils does that too?

Well, I have to go to bed. I hope you all have a great day tomorrow, and don't work as many hours as I probably will. Oh and also, don't forget about entering my giveaway - it is ending in a couple days! ;)

Julep It Girl Box - December 2014

Hey ladies! I got the Maven box last month and have those three polish swatches here for your viewing pleasure. :) You actually already got a sneak peak of two of them in my post on Loki's Nail Vinyls. But, here I will show off swatches, plus my opinions on the polish.

First up, is Rochelle. This is a dark magenta, leaning more purple than pink. It's a lovely metallic hue and not streaky, which makes me happy. This polish went on in two smooth coats.

Next, is Aurora. It is a bright, silver metallic. It is very opaque and could have been a one-coater, but here I did two very thin coats to even out the strokes. Yes, this polish has very visible brushstrokes, which you all know drives me kinda mad. I will say that if you paint on your first coat and sponge on the second, it looks totally perfect, and I think that is how I am going to use my metallics from here on. My new favorite nail aprons come in very handy for that! You can see the process below. Yay!

In case you forgot, here is the mani I did with these two polishes. They look great together!

Last, we have Sharna, the glitter. This is a coppery mix of tiny glitters and is very densely packed, so you can totally go without undies. I did three thin coats here to reach opacity.

All in all, this set is alright, but I do not love it. I think my days of being a Julep Maven are numbered. There is such a thing as too many silver and gold metallic polishes (I swear there is one in the set every month) and there is also a lot of pink/red polish which I feel I already have enough of. There just isn't enough creativity, and I feel like I have too much of the same. I want polish that is truly unique. I think I would like to start getting a monthly box of indies, but they are just so expensive, I don't think I can do it. Does anyone have any recommendations? Maybe there is something out there I haven't heard of yet that one of you can clue me in on. I just want something more creative/original than what Julep has to offer. I guess that happens when you own 500+ bottles of nailpolishes...eep.

Thank you so much for looking. I've got a giant box of Julep polishes coming to me this week from cashing in all of my Jules. I figured I had better cash them in before I say my goodbye, so now I can part ways with ease. I'll have those polishes reviewed as quickly as I can, although it will probably take the whole month. Who knows, maybe this box will change my mind. Have a great day everyone!
